世上最多的就是人，而人最多的地方，就是我们脚下的城市。
美、权力、孤独、秘密，都市的恶与文明都被压缩塞进微微摇晃的车厢，流水席一样送向四处。从东部海岸线到西部淀山湖，上海是足足横跨80多公里的巨大区域。对于初来乍到者，最初的城市印象通常从一张令人眼花缭乱的线路图开始。从1993年运行第一条地铁，到每天客流超过1000万人次，地铁和轻轨成为常态化的设施，发出持续渐强的声音又逐渐消弭于耳畔，为时间和空间转换给出最精准的比率。
事物的本质常常会在意外中显现。这组照片主要拍摄于2020年至2022年的上海：曾经灯火通明的大楼，不再像平日一样发光；电梯停运，电子屏滚动着中英文的“暂停”；人们躲在房子里避免出门，植物与动物像在重新占领这座城市；亚洲首富新竣工的地产项目附近，烂尾楼爆破的粉尘弥漫中环。都说蝴蝶掀起风暴，这样体量的余波，又会掀起什么了不得的事情。
人们依旧不停从异国与外省移居至此，从衰颓的老城厢退向郊区；历史与现实在租界上空飞翔盘旋，在地铁站的出入口不见了踪影；坠落的躯体与身处旋涡的声音隔空对话，街头多了些及时行乐的气氛；十六铺码头的壮丁身上仍冒着汗珠，而他们的子女，正在这座城市蔓延四溢的空调冷气中翩翩起舞。
楼宇间灯火跳动，夜雾中水流不止，绵长而无常的生活中，一切都变了，又好像什么也没变。新冠疫情放大了我们生活中更为隐秘的一面，那些微妙的日常规则，更深层的集体意识，正一同营造着遮蔽在云层之上的纪念碑。

A hundred years ago, railways became the go-to symbol of urban modernization. Later, the symbol of the big city was the elevator — and the skyscrapers it made possible. Behind the packed restaurants and smug commuters in metro, the internet meshes us closer than the transit nowadays.
The photos were mainly taken during the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020 to the lockdown in Shanghai, 2022. After the outbreak of the pandemic, there are very few people on the street, but you know a lot of people in their houses are just avoiding going out unless they have to. Later in the process of recovery, shops on the street closed down, and then slowly changed to bars and cafes with a touch of carpe diem. Many characteristics of this mega city are more clearly exposed during the social unrest. Meanwhile, the logic of the metropolis changes, so does the structure of itself. Closely followed by the development of the capital with real power that expands the new territory, a shared future under Technology Leviathan is emerging. An end but also a start, Just like another Möbius strip.
With its flashing neon lights and roaring traffic, and its long and uncertain life, in which everything constantly changing, and yet nothing at all. But for a brief moment it slowed, almost to a standstill. Even then, however, the movement never ceased: day and night, people gathering and scattering, all exposed under the lens. Within the chaos, we can discern its subtle rules, the deeper collective consciousness it represents, together create a monument to the post-pandemic era.
